We are already wrapping up the first month of 2017!
I hope your January has gone as well as mine has, and I hope the rest of the year follows its example!
This month I have focused so much more on outlining my goals and aspirations for now and after high school.
Now can be a particularly stressful time for seniors. I recently went to a family party, and all my conversations can be summed up to this:
“School is good. Basketball is good. I decided on a college. I’m excited.”
This got old after a while. And I know where I’m going to school! (A post later on that)
But a lot of people don’t know what they’re doing yet. And they don’t have to.
But it’s the easiest conversation topic for family most of the time, so it’s everyone’s go-to conversation starter.
If you’re going through this, remember, as much as they think you should be all set by now, you really don’t have to be. It will all be okay. No rush.
It’s good to be thinking about your future and defining your goals, at least for the short-term. You can’t plan out your entire life, but you can take steps to make it better each day.
Lately I’ve shifted my focus more towards physical wellness and making the most of my education.
I want to be in good habits when I go off to school in August. (Still so crazy to think about)
So, this month, I picked up 3 items to get me closer to my goals!
Audiobooks ($0): This month I rediscovered my public library and I am absolutely in love. There are so many resources that go under appreciated at libraries. Free wifi, comfortable temperature, quiet spaces to work: it’s a student’s dream.
I absolutely LOVE books but I never have time to read anymore because of school and sports. I found a solution: audiobooks! I never tried audiobooks because they can be really expensive, but I didn’t realize that libraries have them for free! I checked one out on CD because my car has a CD player, and I play it on commutes. Such a great way to optimize usually wasted time!
Check out your local library to see which ones they have!
OGX Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum ($6): This is my go-to product when I style my hair. I have naturally dry hair, so this is wonderful particularly when it’s freshly washed. I put this serum in my hair before I apply heat to my hair, and it helps keep it soft and reduce frizz and heat damage.
Starbucks reusable cup ($2): As you probably know, I am obsessed with coffee! I recently got a new coffee maker, which has helped me save money on coffee as well as help me watch my calories. I take my coffee with me to school every morning and using that many “disposable” cups would be bad for my wallet and the environment.
I currently own 3 of these travel cups and I’m so happy that Starbucks is doing their part to help encourage sustainable habits. Plus, you can bring these cups to Starbucks and they’ll fill it up for you, as well as give you $0.10 off your order.
These are sold at your local Starbucks.
I was really working to balance my health, money, and happiness this month, and I feel I did a good job finding things that fulfilled all 3 areas.
Staying motivated is so much easier when it’s fun to work towards your goals!
Keep working, and don’t forget to smile!
