Like most people, I like to go grocery shopping on Sunday. It’s usually my most relaxed day of the week, and it’s a good time to start thinking about the week ahead.
A huge focus in my life, and many other people’s’, is what and how they eat.
Eating well is a huge factor in my physical and emotional wellbeing.
But it’s hard.
I eat decently well, and I exercise very often, but this is not something that came naturally.
It’s hard to become motivated and want to make changes in your life that, at first, won’t seem very beneficial.
My eating transformation is 5 years in the making. In the 8th grade, I was very unhappy with how I looked and felt, like a lot of young girls unfortunately.
I was lucky to have my mom to help guide me through changing my eating habits. But not everyone is so fortunate.
So, I’m providing a quick rundown of what my average grocery store trip looks like.
And this isn’t the list of a model, it’s the list of a 17-year-old girl who loves fitness and food.
And yes, you can love both!
Double Protein Oatmeal English Muffins – so good with peanut butter or my (weird) favorite, strawberry cream cheese
Whole wheat Wraps – chicken wraps are a great lunch option if you need something quick and on the go. If you make one at home you can know how many calories are in it, instead of trying to guess
Almond Breeze Almond Milks – about a year ago I switched myself to almond milk and I will never look back. I never really drank milk by the glass, so I switched to almond milk to put in my cereals and smoothies, and I can’t even tell the difference. For a treat, chocolate almond milk is actually so good. Plus, they both have fewer calories and are better for the environment than traditional milk!
International Delight Lite Iced Coffee – buying this was actually a first for me, it looked good so I decided to give it a try, and it is well worth it! It’s only 90 calories per cup for a very good mocha flavor, especially because I’m not very good at making iced coffee. I actually dilute it a bit with the vanilla almond milk mentioned above and it tastes wonderful, no sugar or anything needed.
Rotisserie Chicken – protein is essential for anyone who wants be healthy. Chicken is my #1 source of protein, and I use it in almost every meal if I can. Buying it like this is my easiest option because I don’t have a ton of time
Smart Ones Microwavable Meals – so these are my favorite. They can be kind of expensive but they go on sale pretty often, so I stock up then. They take 4 mins in the microwave and they are delicious! My favorites are the pasta and vodka sauce, or anything with Alfredo.
Microwavable Oatmeal – super easy, super quick, and low cal. Oatmeal comes in all different flavors and is so easy to customize! A breakfast staple for me
Bananas – I don’t usually eat bananas plain, but I love to use them in smoothies and on peanut butter toast. They are also a great pre workout snack.
Nature’s Bounty Vitamins – these are a new vitamin I decided to try! They’re supposed to be good for hair skin and nails. Gummy and strawberry flavored
Lettuce – I absolutely love lettuce. I use it for salads, in wraps, and bowls and it’s so good and healthy, but you probably already knew that. I don’t buy a ton at a time in case I don’t use it all very quickly.
Lancaster Vanilla Caramels – deprivation is a setup for failure. I love these, and they have a fairly good serving size, so they make me happy
Strawberry Cream Cheese – my weakness. I buy it in small tubs so I can’t eat too much at once lol. It’s amazing.
Parmesan Cheese – I love buying this shredded. I can put it in wraps and salads for very low calories and lots of flavor!
Black Raspberry Sparkling Water – I’ve been working to drink less carbonated drinks, but I sometimes treat myself with this yummy water. No calories and super yummy
Sour cream – remember, anything in moderation. I love using this as a topping, and at 60 calories / 2 tablespoons, it’s worth it
Morning Star Vegetarian buffalo patty – these are so delicious and a great meat alternative. If you’re looking for a good replacement I would recommend these. Great if you love buffalo chicken especially
Canned soup – soup is secretly amazing if you are trying to eat healthier! There are tons of canned soups for under 200 and 300 calories and take 3 mins in he microwave. I grab them on sale whenever I can
This is a list of things that I enjoy eating, that I look forward to eating every day, and that give my body nutrients and fuel.
After all, that’s what healthy eating is all about. If you treat your body well, the looks will just be a side effect.
